For the most part they don't. Unfortunately, sometimes they must.

Yup. Reforming healthcare in general in this country is the root of the problem, however. We're well on our way.

You never want to subsidize poverty. Subsidizing anything leads to more of it. This is why the government subsidizes green energy or drilling for oil and gas.

The difference between disaster relief and many social welfare programs is that the former is a one time expenditure. As a general rule, relief spending ends when the damage has been repaired and basic infrastructure has been rebuilt. Social welfare spending never ends because the programs are often designed to be permanent, and even when they aren't, they often become permanent and grow to encompass activities that were not included in the original mandate.

Consider the cell phone program. It was originally started in the 1980s as a means of providing phone service to poor people living in rural areas and it's grown far beyond that.

As far as determining a "cut off" point for government aid, you want to determine its sustainability. If you know government revenue generally falls between 17 and 19 percent of GDP and seldom exceeds 20 percent of GDP regardless of how much you raise taxes, you can safely assume that entitlement spending that exceeds 20 percent of GDP isn't going to be sustainable. That's just math.

Funny thing about numbers. They don't care about the perceived superiority of your intellect or the complexity of your thinking. Numbers simply are.

hey guys there are no poor or hungry people in America that's just something politicians made up.

do you people realize how stupid you sound or does it seem normal to you?

Your argument is purely emotional and unsound.
You talk about the poor and/or hungry while overlooking the why.
Research the whole story of poor and hunger in America.
You will discover dysfunction and bad habits, and the proliferation of programs that exacerbate both.
Every program created to fight the noble cause of hunger and poverty has indeed increased them both.
War on Poverty, the Great Society, what have they done?
They sound like good ideas but you leave out the human factor.
Socialism in theory sounds fantastic, yet it has failed EVERYWHERE it has been tried.
It has been re-packaged and re-sold,failed,so it has again re-packaged,and this time YOU bought it.
You will not get a refund, socialism is a all sales are final endeavor.
They will take it back and wait for the next fool to buy it.

sure there are. they're hungry in china, korea, norway, and around the world. your habit of dismissing a problem cause it's well...human nature loses it when the base theme is still the driving one.

only the strong survive.

i want to feed the hungry. i want people to accept differences they'd not normally accept. but these are *my* views and not the views of the world around me. views get built off life. our own experiences. those should be talked about and grown upon. not tossed aside cause it's not me.

to get through life is an effort. work. getting knocked down but on your own merits, getting back up again. if someone has to help me well, i don't have it yet. you've got 2 feet to stand on and everything we should should enforce self reliance. everything we work for should encourage teaching people how to take care of themselves.

not how do we take from those good at it and give it to those who refuse to even stand up. those are the extremes. that is where we find ourselves fighting.

how should the gifted care for the apathetic? is even that a fair comparison?

i'll turn away no one who is trying to stand up. i'll ignore all who think they're owed a living cause they're alive. are both out there?

sure.

am i being extreme?

well when you're dealing with an extremist?

our government should provide fundamental benefits that encourage us to take care of ourselves. you're only entitled to what you're willing to work for. that's not me being a dick online, that's life.

only the strong survive.

there has to be a way to find common ground between the extremes. just these days, the extremes, on both sides, won't have it. they giggle at common thought. they say they won in an internet war. they lob out some comment as if it solves everything.

solves nothing. on either side.

we're not in a time of right or wrong but in a time where the extremes on both sides need to be told to shut the fuck up.

i tried.

you got all bent out of shape when people said i made you my bitch and suddenly you couldn't talk to me anymore. your desire to win while being wrong is just...strange. but very typical of people who demand thing cause they dare to be alive.

i want to earn my way. you want to find a "free" way.

you can't even handle me 1:1 in a forum but you know how the world should work.

you're rage w/o a reason. that's YOUR problem - not something a country should fix.

.

If a cat is frightened, the hair stands up fairly evenly all over the body; when the cat is threatened or is ready to attack, hair stands up only in a narrow band along the spine and tail
