Sean Lee is talking to a specialist about the injury, but all signs point to surgery. Obviously a huge loss. Now it's Dan Connor's turn.

Just filed @ESPNDallas - Cowboys fear Sean Lee needs season ending surgery on right big toe

What a sad thing to find out just now.

Right when we have three good tight ends in a row.

He calls the defense and makes nearly every tackle.

Can we ever just have a healthy team?

I think 06 and 07 were the only years we did and we blew both of them.

Cowboys’ Sean Lee may need season-ending surgery
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 23, 2012, 7:58 PM EDT

The Cowboys may need to play the rest of the season without linebacker Sean Lee.

Lee suffered an injury to his right big toe in Sunday’s win at Carolina that could require season-ending surgery, ESPNDallas.com reports.

That news comes as a major surprise because Lee told the Dallas Morning News that he thought he’d be ready to play on Sunday against the Giants.

“I’m going to do what the doctors say and rehab it and see where I’m at, but I think I’ll be ready to roll,” Lee said. “I don’t think it is anything too serious.”

Apparently a more complete medical evaluation of Lee’s injury indicated that it’s much more serious than Lee realized. And the Cowboys may be without one of their most important players.

That’s pretty depressing news. To end your season because of a toe...damn. The Cowboys offense has to wake up already. They have to start holding their own in these games. This field goal stuff has got to stop, starting Sunday.

07 was the year they had Terry Glenn sit around all season wasn't it?

Not that you can really count it the same but ya know.

2 years from now, the homers will say the only reason we didn't win a superbowl this year is because of this injury.

Hostile likes his excuses. Jason Garrett is still the man!

Well, the defense will probably take it a hit so that sucks.

Sucks even more the offense won't be able to make up the difference as they can't even really get the job done in the first place.

Sources: Sean Lee to have surgery

IRVING, Texas -- Sean Lee's season is over.

The Cowboys' inside linebacker will have surgery on his right big toe, according to sources, with a full recovery expected for 2013. The Cowboys feared Lee would need surgery but had held out a slim hope of a comeback but by late Tuesday those hopes were extinguished.

Running back Felix Jones had a similar surgery in 2008 and has not had any issues with the toe since.

Lee suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's win at Carolina. A second MRI on Tuesday confirmed significant ligament damage. He has the most severe case of turf toe with a complete tear.

Some players in the past have been able to play with milder cases of turf toe.

The Cowboys view Lee as a long-time piece to the future of the team, but he has had trouble staying healthy. He almost had his 2011 season come to an end with a dislocated left wrist but managed to miss only one game and played the rest of the season with a cast. He missed two games in 2010 with a hamstring injury after coming in with a knee injury.

Lee leads the Cowboys in tackles with 77 in the first six games, according to the coaches' film. He has two tackles for loss, eight quarterback pressures, one interception, two pass deflections and a forced fumble.

Dan Connor will replace Lee in the starting lineup, and Bruce Carter will take over as the defensive signal caller.
