Sam Hurd: It's 'mean as heck' to think Cowboys could cut him for money

Sam Hurd's hold on a roster spot is tenuous.

The first four receivers on the depth chart are set. When you talk about that fifth receiver spot, Hurd has looked better than Kevin Ogletree, but at what cost?

Ogletree comes in at $395,000. Hurd will make $1.8 million if he's on the team. That's a lot of money to sink into a fifth receiver. If the Cowboys go with six receivers, Jesse Holley or Manuel Johnson would be much more cost efficient options.

Asked if he's considered that money, not performance, could cost him a spot on the roster, Hurd acts surprised.

"Now if that would happen, that's mean,'' Hurd said. "I hope they would never say that. That's mean as heck.

"I mean, let us all eat. They're eating. Why can't I?''
