I'm okay with the idea.

I've said all off season I don't think Crayton really has a role on the team if he's not a #3receiver.

I wouldn't mind it, as long as it is for offensive line depth or a decent pick.

I was for it a few months ago, but now I'm not liking the idea at all. Unless you get a player that can step in and make a difference, you're doing nothing to help your team this year.

Like I said we only do it if we can get value for him.

Sheik made a good point, I felt the same way a couple of months ago. Now, not so much.

Unless, of course we can get a player who will participate now for us.

I disagree. I think this would be a monumentally stupid move. Crayton is one of those reliable old school players. Sure he ruins his mouth---he didn't do it as much last year. But I like Crayton;'s craftiness and grit.

Exactly. What player out there can they and will they get that will contribute as much as Crayton?

It would be a weakening move, imo. Crayton is steady Eddie out there. You know Romo doesn't want to see him go. Crayton has made a lot of big first downs over the years, not fast, but smooth as hell.

I swear, we'll be needing to convert a 3rd and 11, I completely forget about Crayton and he's there to save the day. He finds holes in the defense and is fluid.

Trade him and you are weaker on offense.

You won't get back anything worth more than the quality depth he can give you this year.

We added Dez Bryant.

No way would we be weaker on offense without Crayton.

I should have been more clear. Looking at our depth chart today at WR, cutting or trading Crayton makes us much weaker.

I'd like to have as many weapons as possible. I'd be willing to bet Romo would be pissed if it was Crayton leaving instead of Williams. Why not keep Crayton, who is obviously our 3rd WR, assuming Dez is as good as advertised?

Edit:

This isn't a rip Roy dig either. The dude scored 7 times last year. He needs to be better in a lot of areas, but who's knows if he gets better?

Austin/Bryant/Crayton > Austin/Bryant/Williams

Until Williams and Romo start clicking.

I don't think, considering the lack of certainty we have at other positions, we can or should keep Crayton around for depth.

Besides . . . our offense wouldn't be crippled if we lost a receiver to injury. Hell . . . we'd probably still do alright in the event we lost two receivers. And what are the odds of that?

Meanwhile, we have question marks at offensive line, defensive tackle, safety, and even corner.

You're not going to get back a quality player at another position. So I don't see how this helps you this year if you intend to compete.

It'll be a late round pick. No thank you. I'd rather have quality depth there for a season.

I wouldn't mind if it was some sort of package deal that included a pick where we get an offensive lineman that could actually improve the mess we currently have.

I'm guessing it's a 5th round pick, if anything is actually up. I read some rumors on ESPN that said that Crayton called into some show and said he isn't playing tonight and he doesn't expect to be a Cowboy past tonight.

Probably bullshit, but who knows without investigating those rumors?

People do not realize Crayton's value and have severely underrated him, but they will if and when he is gone; much like until now, they didn't realize Spears' value and impact and had underrated him. We got a young WR corp,l and you need to have a crafty veteran like Crayton. I know alot of people blame and rightfully so, his drops in the playoffs against the Giants, but aside from that, he has been clutch for us, especially last year against the Redskins in the first game.

I have to disagrtee with you Midswat. I think of Crayton as the "dagger in the boot".

I think Middy was saying from opening day roster to opening day roster we would be better. I think if that was the question here, Dez in place of Crayton would be to our advantage.

What I was saying was today, with Crayton in the mix along with Austin/Roy/Dez, we are better off keeping Crayton for insurance and his contributions as a possession wr. Anything we get in return is not going to help us this year in a pursuit of a championship, imo. A draft pick does nothing for me this year. Only thing that I would consider is a package like Crayton and a 2nd round pick to team X for a lineman that would be able to start along our O-line this year.
