No top CBs in for pre-draft visits tells you Cowboys focusing on OT for 9th pick or possible trade down
By Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Irving _ The Dallas Cowboys are hosting about 30 national prospects for pre-draft visits Tuesday and Wednesday at the team's Valley Ranch training head quarters.

The list includes potential first-round prospects like USC tackle Tyron Smith, Boston College tackle Anthony Castonzo, Colorado tackle Nate Solder and Florida center Mike Pouncey, Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod to possible later round or free agent prospects like Louisville running back Bilal Powell, Lehigh tackle Will Barkley, Abilene Christian receiver Edmund Gates and Hillsdale College receiver Andre Holmes.

According to a source, another highly-rated tackle, Wisconsin's Gabe Carimi is not expected to visit. Also not coming is Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara, which gives credence to the trending projections of the Cowboys taking an offensive lineman with the ninth overall pick.

Most mock drafts have the Cowboys choosing Smith after earlier mocks had them picking Amukamara.

The Cowboys traditionally have chosen players they have brought in for visits, especially high in the draft.

The list also gives fuel to the notion the Cowboys are considering a possible trade down in the first round. Owner Jerry Jones has already indicated the team has received a couple of legitimate offers for their No. 9 pick.

Roughly 15 prospects were to arrive Monday night for visits on Tuesday with 15 more coming in Tuesday night for visits on Wednesday.

This is just the beginning of a busy week for the Cowboys who will welcome a host of area prospects for the annual "Dallas" day workouts on Friday. These potential rookies had to either go to college or high school in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
