The Detroit Lions released veteran linebacker Julian Peterson Thursday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Peterson finished with 83 tackles and one sack last season, his second with Detroit after coming over in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks prior to the 2009 season.

Peterson has 802 tackles and 51.5 sacks over an 11-year career that also featured a six-year stint in San Francisco.

He's 32 but I'd take him over Brooking if he can play some 3-4 ILB. We know he would be better in coverage, they don't get any worse than Brooking in that dept.
