When D'Brickashaw Ferguson decided to retire the Jets were in a bit of a tough spot at tackle. They solved the issue -- or at least attempted to solve the issue -- on Saturday night by trading for Broncos tackle Ryan Clady, according to multiple reports.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets acquired Clady from the Broncos and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

Denver has agreed to trade four-time Pro-Bowl OT Ryan Clady and a 7th-round pick to the Jets for a 5th-round pick, league sources told ESPN.

Clady is a big name, but the reality is he hasn't been that great the past few years because of injuries. Clady missed all but one game in 2013 with injury before bouncing back with a strong year in 2014 and then suffered a season-ending injury in 2015 prior to the start of the season.

Denver went out and signed former Seahawks first-round pick Russell Okung to the type of deal you sign when you don't have an agent (Okung's deal carried no guaranteed money, but he could cash in big if he plays well in 2016).

It left Clady, who received a huge extension in 2013, expendable.

With the Jets looking for a replacement for Ferguson, who formally announced his retirement on Saturday morning, the move makes sense.

It's a low-risk play for both parties from a cost perspective and it gives the Jets some security following the loss of their long-time left tackle. The Broncos get out from under the contract, so it logically makes sense from both sides in terms of a trade.
