For just about 22 minutes, Emmitt Smith delivered a speech that touched on his family, faith, love of all things Cowboys. Afterward, owner and general manager Jerry Jones and Michael Irvin could not have been prouder of what they heard.

"He did a great job, man," Irvin said. "Emmitt used his mouth to formulate the words but his heart did the speaking and that's what you want to do at this time. The greatest thing in these moments is we just see such toughness up here. Here are the warriors amongst warriors. Football players, the NFL is about being a warrior ... but to get here these guys there's something deep down in their heart that pushed them to greatness and I love that."

For Jones the speech was symbolic to how Smith ran the ball.

"You could see it really was about what he's about," Jones said. "His preparation, how he thought about his remarks and how he delivered them. I'm proud of the way he really showed in his own way what Emmitt is about."
