BY JOSH SANCHEZ

Herschel Walker was one of the best athletes to ever step onto a field in the National Football League, and he continues to be in phenomenal shape at 52. He still trains at a high level — even competing in two professional mixed martial arts fights while earning a 2-0 record with two knockouts — and that ability to remain in top shape leads him to believe he could still play in the league today.

Walker spoke with Jarrett Bell of USA Today when he said that, making the case that he could help a team on offense because of the running back by committee strategy that has become so popular in the NFL these days.

“I can play in the NFL today,” Walker said. “I couldn’t take every snap. But running backs nowadays don’t play every down. Now they send in the choir section. Physically, I can still do it.”

Of course, we won’t ever see Walker back on the playing field, but perhaps he could join a team in an executive role.

Walker spoke about Donald Trump potentially owning the Buffalo Bills, and he had nothing but great things to say about what the billionaire businessman could bring to an NFL franchise.

“He would be a great owner, and a credible owner,” said Walker, adding that he hasn’t spoken to Trump since his name surfaced as a potential suitor for the Bills.

“People can think what they want to think about Jerry Jones – he’s a terrible general manager, but he’s a great owner. He has done a tremendous job in marketing his team to keep it relevant. I think that’s the same thing Donald Trump would do with the Buffalo Bills.”

Walker and his old friend from the USFL and Celebrity Apprentice teaming up in Buffalo? Stranger things have happened in he NFL.

It's one of those made for TV stories, but I'd like to see him put his money where his mouth is and try out somewhere.

Even if its that 2nd rate league that was supposed to resurface.

Hes a freak of nature, I wonder what exactly he COULD do if he gave it a go. Beast.

I'd sign him during the season and let him get some snaps during a game.

I was really excited when he re-signed with us. He was a good kick returner.
