Greg McElroy’s Wonderlic wasn’t quite as wonderful as reported

One of the most interesting stories coming out of last week’s Scouting Combine came not from anything that happened on the floor of Lucas Oil Stadium but from the answers provided by Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy when completing the Wonderlic test.
It was reported that McElroy scored a 48 out of 50. Though debate quickly surfaced regarding the question of whether the number would have been available so quickly, McElroy himself confirmed the outcome on The Dan Patrick Show.
But the official numbers are now in, and a league source with access to the scores tells us that McElroy actually scored a 43.
It’s still pretty darn good, but McElroy has slid from the “super genius” category to merely “genius.”
As we pointed out last week, some coaches could regard that as a good thing.
