Robert Turbin to Cowboys: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction | Bleacher Report

The Dallas Cowboys added some much-needed depth to their depleted backfield Wednesday by signing former fourth-round pick Robert Turbin.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle was the first to report the agreement, and it was later confirmed by Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan, who noted the Cowboys' desire to get Turbin involved in practice quickly.

Turbin was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012, and he appeared in three games for the Cleveland Browns this season before getting waived last week.

The signing comes just one day after Dallas released another former Seahawks running back in the form of Christine Michael, according to DallasCowboys.com.

Turbin is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry on 18 attempts this season, but the 25-year-old's career yards-per-carry average of 4.0 suggests he may have something to offer the Cowboys' inconsistent rushing attack.

Dallas has failed to recapture the magic of last season with regard to its ground game since DeMarco Murray signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. Joseph Randle was tabbed as the primary replacement, but he lost his starting job to Darren McFadden and was subsequently cut.

McFadden is the unquestioned starter currently, but with only rookies Rod Smith and Trey Williams behind him on the depth chart, Turbin has an opportunity to ascend to the No. 2 spot immediately.

Add in the fact that quarterback Tony Romo is expected to return from a broken clavicle in Week 11, and Turbin may suddenly find himself in an advantageous position after a less-than-stellar run in Cleveland.

Liked Turbin at Utah State and Seattle but skeptical after the talent-poor Browns moved on so quickly from him. We'll see.
