Stephen Jones, the Dallas Cowboys' chief operating officer and director of player personnel, said the club could still fill its opening on the 80-man roster with a tight end. The Cowboys will go at least one more week with only two healthy tight ends: starter Jason Witten and recent addition DajLeon Farr.

Witten welcomed the extra practice work.

``Sometimes when you get to the point in your career when I am, going back to the basics can help,'' he said. ``The idea is to get back into the training-camp mode.''

There was one difference, Witten said. He and Farr had to slow down tight-ends coach John Garrett, who operated as if he still had a full class.

Two more tight ends popped up on the waiver wire in recent days: Joel Gamble, cut by Cleveland ; and Eric Butler, released by St. Louis. Both went to camp as undrafted rookie free agents.

In other transactions, St. Louis signed kicker Shaun Suisham, who made 5-of-8 field-goals tried with the Cowboys last season; and the New York Jets picked up offensive lineman Chet Teofilo, whom the Cowboys released before camp opened.
