Why isn't Greg Hardy at Cowboys training camp? Jerry Jones explains
By Jon Machota

The Cowboys could certainly use a pass rusher capable of recording double-digit sacks. The franchise has also shown that it's willing to give second-chances.

So why isn't Greg Hardy at Cowboys training camp?

WFAA Channel 8's Dale Hansen asked Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones this question during a recent interview.

"Well I think that we certainly got the message from our fans that certainly we had a difference of opinion about whether Greg should be on the team or not," Jones said Sunday night. "More importantly, within the team, we wanted a contribution there that if you were really going to pay that kind of price we wanted more contribution than we got."

Hansen then jumped in, saying that Hardy is better than any of the defensive linemen on the team's current roster. Jones responded: "that could be questionable."

"Certainly as we moved through the year, we had a lot of expectations," Jones said. "But that didn't pan out for us both at certain positions -- his being one of them -- as well as the team."

Hardy started 12 games for the Cowboys last season, recording six sacks and a team-high 32 quarterback pressures.

Hansen suggested that the Cowboys are sending the message that if you beat a woman, they'll give you another chance, but if you're a bad teammate, you're out the door.

"I don't think that's the message that you send," Jones said. "I think you send a message on anything to do with domestic violence, that we abhor it, we certainly have all the empathy in the world for the victims involved. And we do want to send the right kind of message."

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on marijuana legalization, if he's begun preparing his Hall of Fame speech
By SportsDayDFW.com

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently went one-on-one with WFAA's Dale Hansen from Oxnard, Calif., home of the team's training camp. You can scroll to the bottom of the article to watch the full segment. Here are some of the highlights from Jones' appearance:

Hansen: "In light of these recent developments and the suspensions you mentioned, would you support the legalization of marijuana in America?"

Jones: "Well, I'm not about to get into that. As a matter of fact, if I could give a good answer to that, I ought to be running against either (Donald) Trump or Hillary (Clinton), one or the other. I don't have the solution there."

Hansen: "But isn't there something wrong with a penalty that is as harsh as it is, for a drug that is legal in some states and is a misdemeanor in most states, and yet NFL players pay a ridiculously high price if they're caught using marijuana?"

Jones: "Well, I think there are a lot of moving parts to that. What I will say is that I do appreciate the structure of the NFL, and the rules. If they're ever, in any way, altered, then it will be probably because of the marijuana issue, as to legalization. That probably will be the most significant thing that'll arrive at it. We really, as you well know, we're the toughest sport there is, the NFL, on marijuana -- on participating in sports with marijuana."
...
Hansen: "Have you started preparing your acceptance speech into the Hall of Fame next year?"
Jones, smiling: "Well, no I have not."

Hansen: "But you're thinking about it."

Jones: "Well, not really, not really. I'll tell you, Dale, we were talking earlier about how many years we've done this -- a minimum of 26, maybe 27. It hardly seems fair to get any pats on the back for something that I've had so much fun doing for the last 27 years, and so we'll kind of see how that comes when it comes."

Jerry slipping and saying "My fans" and quickly correcting himself says volumes about how he sees himself.
