Ex-NFL player: The Cowboys will fall because Jason Garrett 'is not a good coach'
by SportsDayDFW.com

The South Point Casino in Las Vegas recently released its projected win totals for every NFL team in 2017, allowing football fans to bet on whether their team will win more or less.

South Point opened the betting with Dallas at 9.5, meaning the Cowboys would need to win only 10 games for bettors who picked the over to cash in.

Famed Vegas oddsmaker Kenny White thinks the Cowboys' over/under should be at least a full game higher (10.5).

But one Fox Sports analyst thinks South Point has the Cowboys' projection just right -- and head coach Jason Garrett is to blame.

On a recent episode of Colin Cowherd and Jason Whitlock's "Speak for Yourself" on FS1, NFL analyst and Super Bowl XXIX champion Eric Davis said the low projection is the result of Jason Garrett not being a good coach.

"You need your coach to help you win a couple of games every year," Davis said. "Tony Romo was good for eight games, and most of the time, when he was there with Jason Garrett, they went 8-8. Jason Garrett is not a great coach. He went 12-4 -- he lost his quarterback, they went 4-12."

Davis continued to say that the offensive line, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott got Dallas to the playoffs, but that Garrett could not help the Cowboys advance.

"When he got to the playoffs, when it comes down to coaching and X's and O's, what happened? They went out again," Davis said. "Jason Garrett is not a good coach. Dak can give you seven, eight games -- I think Dak is that type of quarterback. You need Jason Garrett to give you nine, 10, 11, 12. He's not going to do it."

The Cowboys' 2017 schedule includes games against six teams that finished last season with a record under .500.

Analyzing the Cowboys' schedule: Dallas is in for a brutal December

Dallas finished last season with a 13-3 record before being eliminated by Green Bay in the divisional round of the playoffs.

I really hope this picks up steam. He's the first former NFL player and now analyst to call out Garrett. Yes, he's a former Eagles' player, but one cannot claim he has an ax to grind.

I thought Eric Davis played for the Niners, is this a different ED?

Don't hold your breath. Jerrah will defend Red until the very end.

The only good thing about going 13-3 and then 1 and done, and him being made COY, is that there will be more scrutiny under him now.

I know I'm totally off base but a part of me is wondering if Stephen was kind of laying the groundwork to make a run at bringing in Harbaugh. If this team actually does have a bad season or if they're one and done again I think there could be a chance they'd look to replace Red. Harbaugh would be a big name and they obviously like the way he coaches considering they drafted 2 of his players and looking at very least 2 others. I'm just saying I think there really couple be a chance.

Now everyone tell me how stupid I am.

No. You're not stupid. From your lips/fingertips, to God's ears/eyes. I can very well see this team missing the playoffs, which is the same as a losing season. Since Garrett has been HC, he's NEVER had either back-to-back winning seasons, or playoff appearances. Problem is, he could miss the playoffs this year, and with one year left on his contract, Jerry would let him continue in the last year, and Garrett would make the playoffs in his final year AND STILL BE ONE AND DONE... and he'll get a new contract, and the mediocrity would continue.

It's the ex 49er DB. Laz should have seen that when it said Super Bowl XXIX champion it wouldn't be an Eagle.

Yeah., I was thinking of someone else. There used to be another former player sports analyst, that was a former Eagles. Forgot his name.

Nothing he said in his article is untrue. Right now he is definitely the biggest liability we have.

It used to be Jerry, but he's been neutered for the most part by Stevie and Will McClay
