The Dallas Cowboys could have had tight end Martin Rucker in the 2008 draft. Instead, they benefited by enabling Cleveland to draft him.
The Browns obtained the Cowboys' fourth-round pick in the 2008 draft in return for a third-rounder in the 2009 draft. Cleveland used the pick to select Rucker, who flopped. He played in five games in 2008, catching two passes and never developing as a blocker and a special-teams player. The Browns released Rucker last September.
In return for the pick sent to Cleveland, the Cowboys ended up with 69th overall choice in the 2009 draft. They used it on inside linebacker Jason Williams, a backup and special-teams player. The Cowboys have received much more for Williams than Cleveland did from Rucker. Now, the Cowboys have a no-risk chance to revive Rucker's career
