IRVING -- From veterans to rookies, the Cowboys have been plagued by injuries since the team began organized team activities.

And nothing has changed now that the Cowboys are back on the field for their three-day mini-camp. Quarterback Kyle Orton was the latest player to be sidelined. He was out Tuesday with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Bruce Carter, who was participating at the start of practice, also injured his hamstring.

Meanwhile, rookie safety Matt Johnson, a fourth-round pick out of Eastern Washington, remains a no-show for reasons beyond his control.

"Matt is not allowed to be here until his class, his exams are done and they'll be done at the end of this week," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "We've been in contact with him and you are allowed to be in communication and get information to these guys; you just can't have them here when they're on that trimester system until after their exams are done."

Johnson was one of five rookie draft picks not participating. The others were cornerback Morris Claiborne (wrist), linebacker Kyle Wilber (finger), defensive end Tyrone Crawford (calf), and Danny Coale (foot). Also sidelined were running back Felix Jones (shoulder), safety Gerald Sensabaugh (knee), linebacker Dan Connor (shoulder), linebacker Alex Albright (shoulder), offensive lineman Kevin Kowalski (foot), and defensive lineman Sean Lissemore (rib).
