Terrell Owens is a perfect example of this.

Everyone hated him because what he did to us while with the 9ers. Then he comes here... Shit changes. Everyone loves him. Why? Because he's a Cowboy.

He leaves. We all criticize him again. Why? Because he's not a Cowboy anymore.

We're all fans of the teams and the NFL. The appreciation for the players is a product of that.

Exactly right.

Not sure where you were but when TO was here there were plenty of fans who were pissed and wanted him gone from the second we signed him. Some tried to look at the bright side, but alot hated on him the entire time he was on the team.

Laughable.

Owens was loved here.

Fans don't care about players. They care about teams. The league is about the teams. Players come and go. They're irrelevant to the success of the NFL.

And Roy is just making a case against himself anyway.

If some fans still hated Owens when he came here, why would that be?

Because he showed disrespect for our logo. The team logo. What fans really care about.

I actually agree with Roy. I could sense that all those fans rocking those TO jerseys, and cheering at deafening levels when he caught the ball or scored touchdowns were doing so sarcastically.

Owens led the team in jersey sales while he was here, but the fans hated the shit out of him.

A prolonged lockout will hurt the NFL. The league may be a power house and star maker now, but take the product of the field for a few seasons, and it will cripple it. If you took Cheers off the air for two years in the mid 80's, it would have lost fanbase. That said, when the league does come back, fans will still be Dallas Cowboy fans. Felix Jones could be playing in the UFL or CFL, but nobody will care. We will care who is running for Dallas. Scab players would be terrible, but we would grow to love them as plucky underdogs...as long as they have a star on their helmet.

That said, Roy and SBK are so close to kissing right now. SBK may as well be pulling Roy's pigtail.

Any sport inactive for a couple of years would suffer. But the NFL is the one league that wouldn't be crippled. If they chose to start over with a new group of players, the initial numbers would be down but still strong. Within three years, you wouldn't know the difference.

The NFL would rebound very fast.

People have pointed to how the baseball lock out, and hockey lockout hurt those leagues. But so much of the NFL's popularity is derived from fantasy football, and sports betting. And while those other leagues have both, they're not near the level that of the NFL.

Combine the name brands that are the teams, the sports betters, and the fantasy football fanatics, I really doubt a drop would be noticed at all.
