I know we're doing the Universe Fantasy Football League, as well as the Pro Football Pick'em League, but I'm also throwing out another game idea to see if enough people would be interested in participating.
It's the DCU Point Spread Challenge.
This is how it would work (note: I've just come up with preliminary rules and remain open to rule suggestions/modifications):
On Tuesday of every week, I'll post the opening point spreads for every game in the upcoming NFL week.
Players will pick two games, with the sides they like.
For example, if the lines were posted as follows:
New York Jets - 4 vs Dallas
New York Giants - 3 vs Washington
You'd post what side you're taking. You could take the Jets -4, or Dallas +4. Or the Giants -3, or Washington +3.
The scoring would go as follows:
If you took the Jets -4, but the Jets only won by 1 point... you'd have -3 points for that game. However, if the Jets won by 14, then you'd end up with 10 points for that game.
Likewise, if you took Washington +3, but they lost by 5, you'd be down -2 for the week. If they won by 3, you'd have 6 points for that week.
If people think it'd be worth it, we could give someone more points if they pick an underdog that wins straight up. (Not covers the spread, but wins straight up).
Weigh in if you think you'd want to participate.
And let me know if I explained the rules well, or if you have any suggestions.
