Says he thinks it will be Ryan Shazier, says Cowboys love him as the new WLB. Talked about how bad Carter was there last yr and how critical the position was to this style of defense. (Kiffin & Marinelli have had Derrick Brooks and Lance Briggs over the yrs at WOLB)

Said normally he isn't a fan of 4-3 LB's early, but described Shazier as "special" talent, talked about his leadership and smarts too.

Supposedly several teams in the 20's love this guy too, not sure how far they could move down and still get him.

Can you imagine him with Lee? That would be great.

I'm glad his cancer is in remission too.

He's a really good football player, seems tailor made for this scheme too.

There's a handful of guys in the first round that seem like really safe, good bets on becoming quality players, Shazier is one of those IMO along with guys like Mack, Matthews, Robinson and Zach Martin

Yeah, that ROLB is almost as crucial as the three technique in our version of the 4-3 and Carter played like ass in that role last year.

Not sure I want to spend the first on it. Really depends on who else is around.

I would have said Telvin Smith later, but he got popped for bad drug screen too. The bad thing is that this is really not a good OLB class and there isn't a Lavonte David type, other than this guy.

The Bucs drafted Derrick Brooks in the 20's the yr he came out (with a pick we traded them I believe) and he was well worth it. If Shazier were anywhere near as good as Brooks, it'd be good value.

The DL (especially in terms of pass rush) sux, but its possible they could still find some quality DE/DT value a little later if they got Shazier (by far the best 4-3 WLB in the draft) in the first. Would be a huge bonus if we could move down and net another pick or two and still get him.

I think if they drafted someone like Shazier, Carter would get shopped and they'd see if anybody would give up something (maybe that 6th rd pick we are missing) for him.

I doubt that. He showed flashes 2 years ago of being a Pro Bowl linebacker. Last year he was lazy and just didn't care. Getting a 6th wouldn't be a very good return. He'll probably get another year.

:lol

Jerry can't trade anyone.

He just can't get it done. Name the last guy he traded and got decent return for.

He will end up cutting him if they decide to part ways.

He only has 1yr left on his contract. If they draft his replacement he almost assuredly isn't getting resigned here.

May as well get something now for him. He'd have gotten benched last yr if not for all the injuries.

Define decent. We have extra late picks this yr because of traded players do we not?

I don't see him staying after this year. There's no way you can trust him.

We really need to stop wasting our 2nd round picks every year. The guy is lazy. How did they not see that before they drafted him? Who cares if he would have been a top 15 pick.

I'd take a 7th for him. We took Ratliff in the 7th.

He's more likely to clutch Carter to his chest because he spent the pick on him. Look at Bennett, Jenkins and Felix Jones. Could have tried to trade one of them, they all left for nothing.

Just because he picked up a seventh in a trade for a guy like Dante Rosario doesn't mean he wins the trading game.

I never claimed he wins or is good at it, just that it has been done

We'll never trade Carter. Jones wanted to show everyone how much smarter he was in taking a top 15 pick in the 2nd round and now he's embarrassed about it.

He didn't look so embarrassed the 2012 season. Carter looked damn good then.

His fall off is rather bizarre. I read somewhere he tried to blame the change to the 4-3, but he played the 4-3 WOLB all his career at UNC and was so good at it that he was a consensus 1st rd pick, and most believed an early 1st rd pick had he not been injured.

Yeah, he's just making excuses for not caring last year. We have the worst atmosphere in the league and there just aren't many leaders on the team.

I thought this guy was white. Ryan is such a white person name. Now that I see the pic I'd be okay with the selection.

As an aside, I'm on my phone and it looks like he has no legs. Like he crawled on the floor to get his picture taken.
