Wow the raiders were going to trade their 1 and howie long to Chicago for the sixth pick, they were going to trade the 6 to Baltimore for elway....Baltimore was going to take Marino.

Tex schramm called elways agent asked if elway wanted to play in Dallas.

Elway loved the cowboys, his first team. Landry wanted to trade white and picks to Baltimore, Balt coach frank Kush wanted white and had coached him before him.

The colts owner squashed the deal or elway would have been a cowboy....wow.

Gil Brandt said Dallas offered 3starting players and picks, but unfortunately they dealt with frank kush and not Robert irsay, like Denver did.

Gil said tex was going to fire him over not getting elway.

It would have been exciting, no doubt about that. Elway obviously played well for Dan Reeves, who was a direct Landry disciple.

That said, Gil Brandt was downright putrid drafting players from 1978 onward. Elway might not have gotten much more of a supporting cast in Dallas than he had in Denver.

We don't have a 2nd blocking TE....

He'd be a bull to bring down out of the backfield in short yardage situations....
