SAN ANTONIO -- The first of the two-a-days here at the dome was a walkthrough with the veterans getting time off. It's the second time this summer Wade Phillips gave the veterans an off day and let the rookies and younger players receive more reps.

*Dez Bryant, wearing a walking boot, is watching the plays and answering questions on assignments from receivers coach Ray Sherman. Bryant said his mood is good and that it's good to talk to Sherman during the practices. Sherman said Bryant is answering the questions correctly.

*Here is some rehab info: Linebacker Sean Lee hopes to return to practice early next week with the goal of playing in the Hall of Fame game on Aug 8 in Canton, Ohio. Lee was doing some hard running with associate athletic trainer Britt Brown as he recovers from a strained quad. Pat Watkins (knee), Akwasi Ansah-Owusu- (shoulder), Stephen Hodge (knee) and Sean Lissemore (groin) missed the morning session.

*Josh Brent is back at practice again for the second consecutive day. He missed a few practices with a broken hand and is now wearing a club on the hand. Line coach Paul Pasqualoni said he talked to Brent after practice about taking advantage of the reps he's going to get in the next few days and about how much time he's missed. Brent is trying to overtake Junior Siavii as the backup nose tackle. Siavii's footwork and knowing his assignments have improved so much over the last year. Pasqualoni called Siavii "steady."

*The walkthrough was done at a slow pace and sometimes that causes problems. When center Travis Bright snapped the ball too late, quarterback Stephen McGee ran into Jesse Holley on a reverse. If the snap had been on time, and Holley was running a full speed, the collision wouldn't have happened. Bright, who is trying to become the backup center, was short on a snap to McGee causing a fumble.

*The offensive line for the morning session: Left tackle Robert Brewster, left guard Mike Tepper, center Bright, right guard Pat McQuistan, right tackle Sam Young. The defensive line had a combination of right end Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, nose tackle of Siavii and Brent and left end Marcus Dixon.
