Voluntarily or not, TE coach John Garrett looking to move on, applies for Delaware job

A week after running backs coach Skip Peete and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan were fired, the Dallas Cowboys coaching carousel is continuing to churn.

Assistant strength and conditioning coach Walt Williams has been fired, per a source, and now it appears that the speculation of tight end John Garrett being asked to move on is true as well.

Per CBS Sports, Garrett, the brother of head coach Jason Garrett, has applied for the head coaching position at the University of Delaware.

Garrett, who applied for the offensive coordinator position in Miami last season, has been the Cowboys tight ends coach since 2007. He was hired when Jason Garrett was named offensive coordinator. Garrett was given the additional title of passing game coordinator last season.

There is no guarantee that he will get the Delaware job, but it does likely mean that his days in Dallas are likely done. With one brother here as head coach and another brother, Judd, here in the scouting department, there is no reason to take a flyer on the Delaware job unless you were asked not to return.

According to multiple sources, John Garrett was not well liked by other staffers at the team's Valley Ranch headquarters. There has also been a lack of tight end development behind Pro Bowler Jason Witten during his tenure.

John Garrett was encouraged to pursue the Delaware job by Jason Garrett, according to sources cited in the CBS report.

Garrett might not be the last coach to leave. Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis could be gone as well. He didn't get the Chicago Bears head coaching job that he he interviewed for but he could make a lateral move to Chicago or elsewhere as special teams coach.

The Cowboys blocked a move by DeCamillis to the Raiders last year as special teams coach. They are unlikely to stand in his way again.

The defensive assistants remaining from Ryan's stint as coordinator are still being evaluated by new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

sounds like he resigned to spare his brother the unpleasant task of firing him

Delaware is actually a pretty good football program at their level...they've won several national championships and most years are a contender at their level

According to Spagnola, looks like he got a position with Tampa Bay:

Apparently tight ends coach John Garrett, moving on to Tampa Bay.

I'm sure he's gonna develop Vincent Jackson the same way he developed Jason Witten here.

We let a genius walk away. Rue the day!!!
