This isn't aimed at keeping anyone out.

Rather, it is to keep those who don't want to see political discussions from seeing any of the discussions/threads/posts.

Good idea IMO. All it does is get everyone pissed off at each other.

Now we can hit the "new posts" link and see the team, NFL, and draft links without seeing all the other stuff.

Yeah, my guess is that the News forum will get progressively worse until it too is password protected.

(Guys who like shouting matches generally prefer to shout in front of audiences.)
