OXNARD, Calif. -- Tuesday was a scheduled day off for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo but it turned into business as usual. Romo talked his way onto the practice fields and didn't miss any time during a short yardage and red zone practice.
With Wednesday being a day off for the Cowboys, coach Jason Garrett said there was a chance Romo would sit, therefore giving him consecutive off days.
Not so.
"We're trying to be real smart with him and he knows that," quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. "He didn't over do anything today and he gets a full dayoff tomorrow. He is an aggressive personality when it comes to doing his part though."
Romo declined to talk about the off day when approached by a reporter.
The Cowboys insist their quarterback is in good shape conditioning wise, after he missed the entire offseason because of surgery to remove a cyst. Team officials said the surgery was minor but they would monitor the amount of times Romo throws passes.
Romo is moving well in the pocket and getting a feel for his receivers and new center Travis Frederick.
"I think he's gotten better every day," Wilson said. "I think initially there was a little bit of rust and dealing with the speed, but he missed the whole spring but now he's playing well."
Wilson said no decision has been made regarding Romo's playing status for the preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins in the Hall of Fame game.
