** David Buehler had an excellent kickoff day. He had four of his seven kicks go at least 4 yards deep into the end zone. His shortest went to the 2. He's also working on kicking the ball to the left more after sending most of his kickoffs to the right in 2009. Two of his kickoffs went to the left. He was also six-of-six on his field goal attempts.

** During individual drills, the defense went through different station work in which they worked on stripping the ball, recovering the fumble, scooping up fumbles and slapping at the ball while rushing a quarterback (like DeMarcus Ware vs. New Orleans' Drew Brees last season).

** The 9-on-9 running drill was about even, which is a good thing for the coaches to see. The offense's best run was a toss to the left in which a pulling Leonard Davis led Felix Jones around the edge after pinning Victor Butler. Fullback Deon Anderson didn't have a soul to block until 8 yards down the field. Defensively, Jay Ratliff stymied a run while dropping to a knee on a double team to eat up Andre Gurode and Davis to limit Marion Barber.

** It was interesting to watch Tony Romo work in one on one pass drills in the red zone. On a throw to Patrick Crayton the left, he took the snap and acted like he was reading through his progressions to the right before going to Crayton. Most quarterbacks just focus on the side of the field where the wide receiver lines up in those drills.

** For a brief moment new cornerback Teddy Williams, who had not played football since high school, was lined up vs. Dez Bryant in one-on-one drills. Terence Newman tapped Williams on the shoulder to replace him.

** This was a quiet day for Bryant. He had one pass thrown his way from Romo and it was broken up by Cletis Gordon. He did not have a pass come his way in any other snap in seven on seven and team drills.

** Pre-snap penalties have not been much of a problem so far, but Doug Free, Montrae Holland, Pat McQuistan and Robert Brewster were all replaced for a snap after committing a foul. Funny how it happened on the day the officials showed up.

** Marion Barber had a nice run while lining up as a fullback. On a quick count, Barber was able to slip by an on-coming DeMarcus Ware, whose attention was mostly on Felix Jones after Jones motioned to the backfield from the slot.

** In team drills, the edge might have gone to the defense in the running game. Jay Ratliff swallowed up Tashard Choice on one run and Anthony Spencer was in the hole just a step after Herb Donaldson took the handoff.

** Rookie fullback Chris Gronkowski had his most active day. He had a couple of catches and a carry up the middle that gained yards. For the fullback in this offense, that's progress.

** After one play in which he was held or interfered with by Bradie James, Barber pleaded to the officials. "Are we taking the day off?" he said. "I need a yellow."

** Romo and Roy Williams barely missed on a deep post on the second snap of team. Romo put a little too much air under the ball and the wide out was able to only get a fingertip on the throw while Orlando Scandrick was in coverage. Scandrick had a good day. He read a quick bubble screen to Miles Austin and would have stopped the Pro Bowler at the line of scrimmage.

**Rookie tight end Scott Sicko dropped a touchdown pass during red zone drills in seven on seven. He beat Danny McCary to the inside but could not hold on to the Jon Kitna throw. Wide receiver Titus Ryan also had a drop on a TD throw from Stephen McGee.

** Rookie corner Bryan McCann ad a perfectly timed break up on an out route throw to Manny Johnson from Stephen McGee. So much so that a few veterans gave the SMU product a shout out after the play.

** Tight end John Phillips had another good day. He had a sick fake to the inside back outside that froze safety Alan Ball in one on one drills for a touchdown.
