Shooting at the Chiefs facility
Posted by Mike Florio on December 1, 2012, 10:21 AM EST

A scary and confusing situation has arisen this morning at Arrowhead Stadium.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, who is in Kansas City, a Chiefs player and another person have been found shot in the team’s facility. Glazer doesn’t specify the condition of the victims.

Glazer isn’t revealing the name of the player involved until the family is notified.

We’ll be providing more details as they become available. The situation is contained and there is no ongoing threat.

UPDATE 10:36 a.m. ET: Per KCTV, one shooting occurred at the facility and a related shooting occurred elsewhere. A player reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend then drove to practice facility and shot himself there.

According to KCPD, Scott Pioli, Romeo Crennel talked with the player before he shot himself. He thanked them. "They didn't feel in danger."

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
Per the KCPD, the player approached Pioli and Crennel and thanked them, then walked away and shot himself.

That call was at 7:50 CT. Police called to Arrowhead at 8:10. They found Chiefs staffers, and the player w/a gun to his head in parking lot.

Kansas City Star ‏@KCStar
Police: #Chiefs player, 25, was met by coaches in the parking lot of the practice facility and then took his own life.

Would not be surprised if somewhere down the road this will be blamed on head trauma/concussions and most likely end up with one family or the other suing the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL.

Costas said that if we had better gun control, that Belcher and his baby momma would still be alive.

Um... if the guy is driven to shoot someone 9 times, then he's driven to kill. If he hadn't shot her, he would've stabbed her or choked her or dropped a piano on his head.

Now, he might still be alive, as he likely wouldn't have been able to choke himself to death or drop a piano on his head, and really, who wants to stab themselves to death. But him killing himself is not a tragedy. It's a good thing, quite frankly.

Bob Costas says we need moar gun control. Get rid of handguns now.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the game thread. Outrageous that he and Whitlock would try to politicize this tragedy before the bodies were even cold.

Yep. The only thing the outlawing of guns might have saved is Belcher's life. But the rest of it would have been spent in prison.

The only thing more retarded than politicizing issues like this for gun control are the ridiculous arguments from people who are against it.

I don't know anyone (not even the NRA) who's against sensible gun control (waiting periods, thorough background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of minors, the mentally ill, criminals, etc.) The KC guy purchased it legally, and the shop owner isn't a mind reader. I do agree that we should eliminate the "no background checks at gun shows" loophole.
