Since 2007, we've made 54 picks.

How many have been from the undisputed best conference in the country?

Four. My remedial math skills say 4/54 = .074.

Meanwhile, two from William and Mary alone.

Weird.

You got me interested in how many top players are actually from the SEC. Yeah it's the best conference but does that translate?

Top 10 QBs by rating last season, only 1 from the SEC right - Peyton? More from small schools, the ACC and Big 10.

For RBs top 10 yardage only Foster and Ridley.

For WRs only Green.

It strikes me that offensive linemen you're seeing alot from the big ten.

For sacks you've got Charles Johnson, Geno Atkins and Chris Clemons all from Georgia.

And I'm done looking.

remember when everyone bitched that all parcells did was take big school players with production....I remember all the local yocals complaining that he was stubborn and only wanted one type of player.

Now its the opposite and they are still complaining.

seems, we have nothing but complainers following and covering this team.

It's just an observation, not a complaint. I'm sure it's just coincidence, because I seriously doubt we're consciously avoiding the SEC. You would think we'd at least have average SEC representation, though.

What's funny is, speaking of Bill... I remember in the bad Lacewell days we took a lot of SEC guys (his Tennessee connections, etc.) and supposedly Parcells joked with Jerry when he got here that he wanted to play SEC ball and Bill wanted to play more like the Big 10. (Bigger, more physical over speed is what he meant I think.)

Anyway, that's another topic, but I remember all the local media guys supporting Bill. Except for Hansen, who'd heard the stories about what a jerk he was to work for. But I can't think of another one who didn't like him?

Earlier today on ESPN they said 25% of the players drafted this year were out of the SEC. More than any other conference by a longshot.

it hasn't worked out with the ones we had. from spears to felix to skyler green the ones we draft aren't very good and don't last long.

might be a league-wide problem since every breakdown I could find via google showed that the ACC, Big 10, and SEC were all pretty even in league representation despite the SEC having a big edge in players drafted year in and year out. i.e. they are busting more.

draftees =/= current players unless you're seeing something I'm not.

Actual NFL starters are pretty evenly distributed from what I saw (could be incorrect but that's what I found).

Considering we draft SEC players at a much higher rate but NFL starters are pretty even...what that says about SEC players' NFL viability isn't great.

Do the exercise yourself - go down top performers list and see how many SEC players show up. it's not alot.

It is hard to find info on this for some reason, here's one thing.

I will say that in this survey, it's a little sketchy IMO to call Missou and A&M players SEC. Yes, technically they are this year. But the players in there now would have played their whole careers in the Big 12. (SEC still leads though.)

Another thing, I don't even remember when Miami joined the ACC, but I know I still think of them as an independent, I guess back from their glory days.

How does that correlate to the total number of SEC picks over that time vs the total number of draft picks?

I don't have any statistical analysis or anything but I think the best lineman, and linebackers probably come from the SEC and Big 10. Power conferences.

Best skill position players probably come from the ACC/Pac 10.

Just a guess.
