Sean Payton: I don't know if there is anyone in the league that wants to win more than Jerry Jones

If Jerry Jones wants to spend more time on the sideline, Saints coach Sean Payton says that's what the Cowboys owner should do.

Payton and Jones have remained friends since Payton left for New Orleans in 2006 after three seasons as an assistant under Bill Parcells in Dallas. Payton maintains a second home in Tarrant County.

"It was never a distraction," Payton said of Jones. "I would say I have a close relationship with Mr. Jones. He was extremely supportive. He and Bill [Parcells] really worked well together. I think one of the great traits he has is I don’t know if there is anyone in this league that wants to win as much as he does. That competitive fire, whether you are up in the suite or in the stands like Mr. [Mark] Cuban, down on the sidelines, shoot they are the owners, they can be anywhere in the stadium they want to be. I think there is a personality with Jerry that is very contagious. My experience in the three years there was outstanding. It was a great work environment and very supportive. I think as a coach or player the only time you would pay attention to that was in a big win maybe at the very end, but no absolutely not.”

A couple of years ago at the combine, after the Saints had won their first title, Payton ordered a bottle of wine that the restaurant had set aside for Jones the next night. He and his party enjoyed the Caymus Special Selection cabernet sauvignon and left the empty bottle with a note for Jones and the Cowboys: WHO DAT! World Champions XLIV. Sean Payton.

Jones enjoyed the joke.

His way. Yes. No owner wants to show his broken model of team management can win more than Jerry Jones.

Sean's positive regard for Jerry could be setting up Dallas to be Payton's Place in the near future. I still wonder why Sean moved his family and kids to Dallas a few years ago.

He could have had Payton for $8 mil this offseason but it went against his oath of continuing what Al Davis left behind in Oakland

Too bad he doesn't know how.
Poor delusional prick still thinks he was the straw that stirred our 3 out of 4 Superbowls drink.

He just signed a five year extension in January. He will not come and save us.

Another thing to blame Garrett with. Jason is in the way. Payton or Reid could have been coaching the Cowboys, but Jerry is loyal to Red and don't have the balls to admit hiring him was a mistake.

Payton is probably the only quality coach capable of stroking Jerry's ego and maintaining order. It's especially shitty that we missed out on him when you look at the situation this year in the NFC. The Super Bowl is wide open and romo is having his best year as a pro. He's a top 3 QB right now. I hate ginger so much.

He may want to win, but he has no clue how to.

Same thing the "realists" have been saying for years...He wants to win, badly, but he only wants to win because of him. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else and he wants to prove it.

Among egomaniacal narcissist billionaire douche bags, he reigns supreme.

Yep. Last night's game was the lowest rated SNF Cowboys game in 3 years, just ahead of the Green Bay game where they quit on Wade.

He better realize he's treading on thin ice. There's only so much shit people can take. We have some dumb ass fans, but at some point they'll realize what's going on.
