Romo plans to change more plays at the line of scrimmage

Much has been made this offseason about Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo having an increased role in game planning. Romo says that increased role in controlling the offense will extend right up to the point when he’s about to take the snap.

Romo won’t be controlling the entire offense at the line of scrimmage, the way Peyton Manning does, but he does expect to call more audibles at the line.

“I’ll probably do a little more from time to time at the line,” Romo told the Dallas Morning News. “That’s not every time, that doesn’t mean every game but it means that capability is there for us.”

Romo said he and offensive coordinator Bill Callahan have spent a lot of time together to get on the same page.

“I don’t know how much time it is, but it’s hours every day that we’re outside of the football field in meetings together, talking, going over stuff,’’ Romo said. “It’s been a real good rapport. Bill has got a good mind for football, just like Jason [Garrett]. It allows us to do a lot of different things now that we’ve put our heads together and attack things.”

More than ever, the Cowboys’ offense will run this season through Tony Romo.

Good. Especially and hopefully in the red zone. I'm also tired, as some other poster mentioned, that the Cowboys be on their opponent's 18-yard line, and it will be like 2nd and 7, and yet Garrett will be trying to take shots at the fucking endzone, instead of trying to get the 1st down and get as close as possible to the end zone.

Is it just me or is everyone pretty much saying that they are happy Garrett isn't calling plays anymore?

But from the last game against the Raiders, when the Cowboys stalled in the red zone AGAIN... that definitely seemed like Garrett had a hand in that. And if Garrett is going to take over the red zone playcalling... then really, what's the point? SAME SHIT.

He wants his system to remain the team's philosophy, which has certain "if/then" plays based on what the defense is showing. Callahan, Witten, and Romo have all commented that "it's Jason's system...." which I thought was just trying to insulate Jason from detractors, but now I wonder if its kind of a complaint.

They should be. Garrett is an average, at best, OC.

Maybe he can be a walk around HC but I don't ever expect much of him as an offensive coordinator

Galloway and Mosley had a great point one day. Tony got a huge new contract extension. Jerry obviously is giving him more say in everything. Given that, do you think the offseason change in playcaller would have been made if Tony said, "Jerry, look, Jason is doing a great job and I agree with everything he's trying to do. I don't think we should change anything about the playcalling. We just need to execute better."

No way.

Well, if we go 8-8 again, or worse... Garrett and his system will be gone.
