Replacement refs don't concern Jerry Jones
August, 21, 2012
By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

Jerry Jones played a leading role in ending the NFL lockout last season.

Just don’t expect him to do the same with the lockout of the NFL officials.

Jones said at the beginning of training camp that the lockout of the officials didn’t especially concern him because the games would still be played. He hasn’t changed that stance after seeing the rocky preseason performances of the replacement referees.

And there have been some interesting moments, to say the least. The officials called a defensive holding penalty on a wide receiver who stayed in Oxnard during the Cowboys’ preseason opener. They began marking off a penalty after a failed third down without asking coach Jason Garrett if he wanted to accept or decline in the second preseason game.

But the replacement refs don’t worry Jerry one bit.

“No, I’m not, at all,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “As long as it’s the same for both sides, and it will be, we’ll be all right. They’re going to get better as they go along.”

Of course, the replacement refs can’t get a whole lot worse. But that’s not Jerry’s concern, as long as the games will be played.

This is good. I have never seen more lopsided games as far refereeing goes than Cowboys games. We get called for the smallest things while the other team gets away with murder. And the fact that Romo has had only one roughing the passer called on him in his entire career should tell you right there. The refs fuck us over every year.

During Sat night's game, the only reason I found myself rewinding the live action was to see how badly the replacement refs were fucking up. The fiascoes with the non-interference call on Harris in the end zone and the unsportsmanlike penalty on Ogletree where they said it happened after the interception were maddening. They may be less biased than the regular refs, but they're brutal for watching these games.

Romo took a shot below the knees, it was vicious and should have been a penalty and a fine duringnthe week.

No flag.

Bobby hoyer took the same shot Monday and it was called.

If they don't get this resolved the games are going to take 4.5 hours

No penalty for the somersault? That's refreshing.

That's because nothing concerns Jerry Jones. Ever.

If he lived in reality, our line would have been improved immediately following the loss to the Vikings in the playoffs when Romo ran for his life the whole game.

I really despise this man.

I read that some of the refs are walking around star struck and trying to chum it up with the players. There's a gag order issued, so we're being deprived of great coaching podium meltdowns over this right now.

Well any money given to the refs comes out of the owners pockets. Why is anyone asking the owners about this? They all have to show solidarity. No different than player strikes/replacement players.

I know which play you are talking about. Arkin got pushed back and flattened. After that play you can see Romo stretching out his knee a little.

That said, Jerry obviously is concerned, anyone who cares about NFL football is concerned. I saw the Saints/Titans game...was a joke. They are in negotiations. You can’t say “yes, we are concerned, we will give the anything they want to come back!”

There's a reason why these forks weren't officiating NFL games before now, Jerry.

When it coems to officianting games for the Cowboys, is there much difference between the replacement refs and the actual refs? They're both are going to screw the Cowboys over.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Doesn't See Any Difference In the Replacement Referees
8/23/2012

Either the regular NFL referees are that bad, or there are owners and coaches lying to save face.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has jumped into the fray on whether or not the replacement refs are suitable.

Jones, while speaking on 103.5 The Fan, was asked if he was concerned about the referee lockout.

“No I’m not,” Jones said. “As long as it’s the same for both sides — and it will be — we’ll be all right. And they’re going to get better as they move along.”

Jones also made comments regarding whether or not refereeing should be a full-time job.

“I think we get better people by having officials that don’t make it full time. When you only are officiating 16 games a year, plus the playoff games, it doesn’t warrant full-time officials.”

Finally when asked if he noticed any difference between the regular and replacement referees.

“I haven’t, really, because I can take any game at this juncture in any year and come up with criticism of the officiating,” Jones said. “It’s subjective in so many areas, and we’ve got in place a pretty good backup system now with our replays, and when it’s replayed. If anything, I’ve seen in a couple of our games the replay procedure needs improvement. . . . That has, in my mind, nothing to do with these replacement officials.”

We’ll see how he feels if one of those call affects his franchise.

Commissioner says using replacement refs can ensure long-term improvements
Posted Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says possibly using replacement referees for regular-season games is worthwhile to ensure long-term improvements to officiating.

The league and the NFL Referees Association have yet to reach an agreement, and Goodell acknowledged Thursday that time was running out to make the regular officials available for the openers.

"We're anxious to get a deal done, but it has to get done that it's going to help us for the long term," Goodell said. "It's not a short-term issue."

Of the replacement refs who have been calling preseason games, Goodell said: "We think they'll do a very credible job."

Officials probably need a week to 10 days to prepare for the season, Goodell said, and the first game is Sept. 5, 13 days away. The first full Sunday of games is Sept. 9.
