Anyone else think he could have his best season yet?

Single season sack record within reach, perhaps?

It could be that the subtle change in his position will be good for him. Being able to use both arms is a plus too. If the secondary is improved, that could add some coverage sacks to the total.

Callahan taking over the offense would help as well. Get some points up... force opposing offenses to throw.

Can't get a lot of sacks when you're trailing at halftime every game. See last years underwhelming (by Wares standards) 11.5 sacks.

I think we are hearing more about him in camp as he is rushing every down and not trying to process things as much.

Still concerned about keeping him fresh though.

Too bad he won't be playing Favre at the end of the year if he get's close.

Well, if my understanding of Kiffins scheme is correct (and it's a very elementary understanding, mind you. I don't attempt to be a student of the game in the least), his defense is predicated on generating pressure with the front four and very rarely blitzing.

So wouldn't Ware be rushing 95% of the time, basically?

Unlike past years where he's dropped into coverage, etc.

I never saw the wisdom in asking one of the best-ever pass rushers to drop back into coverage.

Sometimes coaches & GMs out think themselves.

If you have a best-ever pass rusher, you need to figure out a way to have that pass rusher rush the passer as often as you (and he) can. Give him plays off when he needs it, but don't cute with how you play him.

He really didn't drop back into coverage much, though. That's kind of overblown. Especially under Phillips, I think the weakside OLB rushes like 90% of the time, which is like two plays per game he might drop. Ryan tried to get a little more tricky but I bet the numbers were pretty similar with him.

Spencer is the one who should really drop a lot less and get a lot more chances at rushing.

But to the other point... Yeah, it's pretty much unanimous that Ware looks great out there. Maybe the added 8-10 lbs or so of muscle suits him.

.

It was definitely more than two plays per game. You also dont know how many other times it was called for him to drop into coverage, but then the offense ran the ball instead.

Having Ware drop into coverage ANY plays is pretty stupid, especially when you are a team that annually struggled to get off the field on 3rd downs.

So the 34 is just stupid, and some of the best DCs of all time who run it know nothing.... Parcells, Belichick, Lebeau, Phillips, Capers.

That doesn't even make sense.

It's not like he's running rings around Tuinei and Big E.

It doesn't. All these 4-3 whores that have been coming out of the woodwork are funny.

The defense itself isnt stupid. The idea of dropping your best pass rusher into coverage on 3rd and 8 in the 4th qtr IS stupid though.
