Picked up pieces as training camp comes to a close this week ...
** For all of you that believe in the blue-jersey jinx, the Cowboys will not be in a blue jersey all year. They will have their throwbacks for Thanksgiving vs. New Orleans, but every game will be in their classic whites. Have to ask some of the long-time people around the team the last time this has happened.
** For those of you worried about this team not being accustomed to the heat after having training camp inside the Alamodome and in Oxnard, Calif ., you can relax. The Cowboys won't have a game in the heat the whole year. Maybe it'll be warm for the season opener at Washington, but it's a night game. That's followed by two indoor games vs. Chicago (Cowboys Stadium) and at Houston (Reliant Stadiuim) to close September.
** On the most recent 53-man roster prediction, I went with six safeties. Here's the reason why: Alan Ball and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah can play corner if necessary. With Gerald Sensabaugh's shoulder injury, it just seems to make more sense to go with more safeties than corners.
** Chris Gronkowski has taken some turns as a deep snapper the last few days. John Phillips was L.P. Ladouceur's backup but he's out for the year with a knee injury. Defensive end Marcus Dixon has done it some. So has Patrick Crayton. Gronkowski needs some work on it but he did have good velocity on his snaps but the accuracy was off. Word has it Leonard Davis can do some long snapping, too.
** Cowboys worked on some silent-count snaps during Tuesday's practice in preparation for the crowd noise at Reliant Stadium. Having covered two preseason games there between the Cowboys and Texans (2004, '07), those Dallas teams were caught off guard by the emotion in the building.
