Who is a better defensive coordinator?

Now, I'm not saying there isn't one... but there's a lot of people who are trying to rush him out the door and declare he's what's killing this team.

I don't think it's his fault.

Look around the NFL. Who are the defensive genuises?

Remember when Steve Spagnola (or whatever his name is) was a defensive guru in New York and parlayed that into a HC gig? His Saints unit has been putrid most of the year.

Remember when Bill Belichick was a defensive mastermind? The Patriots defense has been their achilles for years.

What about Dom Capers. Defensive guru everyone wanted the Cowboys to hire. Packers defense is terrible.

Wade Phillips? Everyone knows he's a stud DC.... Houstons defense sucks.

Perry Fewell was an up and coming DC, in line for head coaching gigs. lol

The Baltimore DC... who's name escapes me. Their defense sucks this year too.

The list goes on....

Have all these guys forgotten how to coach? Do they all suck?

So you want to shatcan Ryan and bring in someone else.

Great.... who?

I mean, seriously.... the way rules are in the NFL, it's damned hard to have a good defense.

When you couple those rules with the sheer quantity of injuries we've had at the same positions - interior Dline (injury and murder), ILB, safety...

Pair that with an offense that can't sustain drives or eat clock.

Yeah, your defense is going to struggle. A LOT.

It's not all on Rob Ryan. You're foolish to think it is.

LOL at Mid deleting my post about him blowing Ryan, when Ryan has stunk for two years now

I deleted it because your post was stupid. In typical Dbair fashion, it wasn't funny at all. And I asked a very basic question, that what, you can't answer?

I'm not even defending Ryan as much as I'm saying theres reasons beyond the DC's control that the defense sucks. And if you look around the NFL, renowned defensive geniuses are struggling.

And you respond with harhahahrhahrhr got a tasty bj...hahhahahahaha

I think fans blame coaches a little too much. Players have to play. All the scheme in the world can’t account for a number of scrubs in the starting lineup.

You know, the defense did make a key stop to help the Cowboys finish the comeback. They also created a turnover in OT, they just didn’t recover it.

The defense is playing poorly and Ryan is an easy target. I think a logical person would balance the blame with regards to all the injuries.

You make some great points about the new rules and other shitty defenses.

However, I just don't agree w his play calling. I hate it. I wasn't a fan of his defense when we were healthy. Go back and read my posts, I thought our D sucked all year. With the talent we had (when healthy), I expected much more.

I think Mid's original post is somewhat accurate. I certainly dont like Ryan or care if hes gone next season but unless you have the players, nothing will change

^^^ I agree for the most part.

Look what Haslett is doing in DC. Their defense blows when healthy, ad they have tons of injuries too. Now, they are still giving up tons of yards..but they are making enough plays defensively to give their offense a chance to win.

Granted, our defense actually did make enough plays vs Cincy and Pitt. But yesterday was just awful.

I still think Ryan is a pretty good coach, just not a great one or as genius as some claimed when we hired him. Seems he made his name off his Cleveland defenses having a couple of good games against Brady and Brees, and that's it.

But I'm not sure it's really worth it to fire him, because who is a clear upgrade?

To answer's Mid's question, who would be better?

I dont know the answer to that. I think its defintiely time to try something different though. Even before the rash of injuries the defense underperformed. We struggled to get to the QB with any consistency, we made very few plays behind the LOS (ranked at the bottom of the league in tackles for loss) and despite investing 50 million in 1 CB and trading up for the guy they said had some of the best man cover/balls skill of any CB they'd scouted in years, we saw the team play very soft zone coverages. We blitzed with the lowest frequeny in football.

There's no question our safety play is poor, but that doesnt excuse some of the stuff we see them doing scheme wise.

Honestly I think the best answer is to blow up the entire staff (HC included) and get a really proven guy (if Payton can be got) but short of that, if Garrett is going to return I think they need to make a change at DC.

Where are all the stunts and twists that Ryan had promised that he would bring?

Def a very emotional thread. Some peeps are just into fapping it out to orcas that look like hobo Santa Claus.

D has been way too inconsistent. They've made rookie QBs look like hall of famers, and like I said previously, Rob has been a terrible situational coach w/ his timid 3rd down bullshit.

This is a league-wide thing. Not a Cowboys thing.

RG3 has eaten the league alive.

Same with Russell Wilson. Wilson ate up that 9'ers defense this year, and they're damned good.

Same with Andrew Luck.

Hell.... Nick Foles has had his moments. Almost tied that game up and got them to overtime. Would've had Maclin not dropped an easy TD.

Tannehill and Weeden have had their moments too.

There's been hype that this rookie QB class could prove to be better than the famed 1983 class.

Again, league-wide phenomenom. Not exclusive to the Cowboys.

Read the post tard. Give up lots of yards and make plays = better than give up lots of yards, points, and don't make plays

Foles has had two good games. Both against us.

He's looked like dogshit every other week. People are cheering his broken hand.

The most comical part of Ryan is when he let Wilson have his way with us in only his second start ever. Gave him about 30 mins in the pocket on each down. That was also when we weren't injured at all.

Ryan is not a very good coach, but he's an all star diamond surrounded by trash on this staff.

But it's a staff that he picked.

For some time (years), our defense has had a way of makling rookie QBs and marginal QBs looking more exceptional, than they actually are.
