IRVING – The wait for Jason Garrett's coronation continues.

The Cowboys enter Day 4 with no announcement scheduled. But with a contract close to completion, two candidate interviews done and no more scheduled, it's only a matter of time until Garrett becomes the eighth coach in franchise history.

Miami's Todd Bowles became the second candidate to interview for the position Wednesday. The Dolphins defensive assistant was ushered into the office of owner Jerry Jones around 2 p.m. and left just under two hours later.

"We had a good talk, a real good talk," Bowles said. "I gave him a lot to think about.

"I'm grateful for the chance to come in here. They thought enough of me to come in here and interview, so that was good."

Cowboys wide receivers coach Ray Sherman was the first to interview for the job Tuesday. In interviewing two black candidates, Jones exceeded the mandate of the NFL's Rooney Rule which requires a club to interview at least one minority candidate for a head coaching vacancy before it can make a hire.

Bowles was with the Cowboys as a secondary coach under Bill Parcells from 2005-07. He was one of 10 candidates interviewed before the club hired Wade Phillips.

While this was ostensibly his second interview to become the team's coach, Bowles must know the job is slated to go to Garrett. That doesn't mean he won't be part of the Cowboys staff going forward as defensive coordinator or another position.

"Right now I'm focused on the head job," Bowles said. "We'll see what happens there.

"If that doesn't work out, hopefully something else comes up."
