What do you do with him? Is he special enough to pay with Dez and Tyron needing their money?

Just wondering if we might not take a RB higher than people think if we did decide he's replaceable enough.

I know Jerry loves paying his successful draft picks but he might not be able to pay them all.

In todays NFL i would never give a second contract to a RB unless he's Peterson-like. Let him go on FA's and get a young replacement with the comp pick.

Agreed. Running backs can be found pretty easy. We found him in the 3rd.

This team needs to stop handing out contracts like the world is about to end if they don't. It's the reason we're in such a mess now.

I don't have high hopes for Randle so I imagine we will draft one in the 3rd or 4th round range this year or next. I like Murray but not enough to pay him what he'll command.

What makes you guys think Murray will live long enough to get another contract?

Just thinking the same things today, but my conclusion was: trade him. His value has never been higher and I think drafting another mid round RB as well as adding a fairly cheap all purpose RB like Brian Leonard or Toby Gerhart would not have much of a production loss but maybe save money in the long run.

He's not special.

He has good vision and runs hard. Which is a great fit for our system, but a dime a dozen. Why is Joseph Randle on the team?

Randle fucking sucks. What a wasted pick. What can he do exactly? He played 5 snaps and we were screwed when Tanner went down.

Yep, Murray is low on the list of people I think about extending.

Garrett won't run the ball anyway, so who cares? Why spend money on the position?

Yeah but that Rams game a few years ago.

Hey though for real... what happened in the NFL that it was once a build your team around a premier running back league to now fuck it you can find a RB anywhere league?

Just advances in the passing game?

I remember up through the 1990s it was people like Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith... teams were taking RB's like Blair Thomas 2nd overall, Ki Jana Carter first overall, etc.

Running Backs were almost as important as QBs.

Now they're just meh....

Just different trends in the game in my opinion. I still think you can build a winning team with a strong running game if you wanted.

In fact, 3 of the final 4 teams this year were top 10 in rushing yards per game. The other had Peyton Manning.

You need 2 running backs now because the NFL is so hard on running backs these days. Plus they usually crap out at 30. They aren't a good investment with a Top 10 pick.

It's a passing league now too. You still need a running game, but you can't rely on it anymore.

I miss those old running game days Mid is talking about.

I think it's what junk said, the rules started favoring the passing game and players even down to pee wee leagues started throwing it more. All these offseason passing camps and leagues made everyone better at passing and catching at a young age. I'm sure for the last few years there have been kids who their whole lives have never played in an offense where you line it up and run it downhill. Plus the best athletes were always the tailbacks... Now an Eric Dickerson would be a wide receiver, no doubt about it.

But that's another reason I hate for us to be a dome team like we are now, because it just encourages a more finesse passing team. The tough, physical teams you always think about who do run the ball are pretty much all outdoor teams, like Baltimore or Pittsburgh or Seattle or New York.

The Texans passing on Bush for Mario Williams was the beginning of the end for RBs picked in the top 10. The Saints got burned taking him.

Im sure that stat is skewed because 3 of the final four teams were the best teams in the league all year, had late leads, and didn't have Garrett as the head coach so they knew to rush the ball and eat clock.

I think I'd just always churn at RB. Sign guys like Pierre Thomas and draft the #2 in thr mid-rounds. Preferably one from a small silly school. Or a fast guy or a dumb name
