Moore: Cowboys' offense very 'vanilla' right now, but is that really a bad thing?

Cowboys writer David Moore chatted with readers Monday afternoon about the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights from the chat:
Trevor in Sacramento asks: With all the weapons Dallas has why do they look so boring and predictable?
David Moore: The Cowboys will tell you it's because they are in the pre-season and they don't want to unveil any of their schemes. The offense is vanilla right now. But vanilla happens to be a pretty good flavor. The Cowboys' offensive execution should be better than they have shown. Keeping it simple is no excuse for not executing.
Bob in Iowa asks: Should we be concerned about our offense's performance to date in the preseason games? Not looking very sharp out there...
David Moore: The Cowboys have not been sharp. You can only trot out the, "we don't game plan'' card so often. It's about execution, and the Cowboys have not had crisp execution on offense. Go with mild concern at the moment.
Ralph from Ben Hill asks: If McGee can't play, why keep him? 4th round pick or not, why not keep someone who can acually help?
David Moore: The question is can McGee develop into someone who can play in this league two to three years from now. If the Cowboys believe he is headed in that direction, they will keep him and continue to invest time in his development. If not, they will cut ties and look for some other quarterback to develop.
Guest asks: Sicko performed well a few games ago. Is he not the best option for the 3rd TE?
David Moore: Sicko has missed a lot of time with that concussion. We'll find out later today if he'll even be cleared to play this week against Houston. Sicko is a nice receiver but really needs work on his blocking game. Last year's third tight end, John Phillips, was a solid receiver and blocker. The time Sicko has missed has actually helped Chris Gronkowski's case. Yes, he's a fullback, but he is a good receiver and a punishing blocker. His skill set is closer to Phillips' than Sicko.
