So I heard that when the former Soviet Union was beginning its conversion to a more democratic government to compete in the modern world, the first person who was hired to help them was Fidel Castro. (The previous historical events are satirically fictional).

Meet Fidel Castro.

Execute. Taking what the defense gives, getting FGs that should have been TDs, and abandoning the run in the second half.

Ringing any bells?

It's just rearranging deck chairs.

Jerry knows he has to do something to keep some people from being 100% apathetic.

It's not just the conditional run/pass plays. The actual designs of the route-trees are not fooling anyone. Anyone really think how different the "success of the offense" since 2008 would be if Romo were not elusive and somewhat mobile?

What I find amusing is that the offense under Callahan, although flawed, actually scored points and looked like they knew what they were doing in the first half of games.

With Garrett, middle of the pack scoring offense his entire tenure and one season where the only thing that worked was throwing the game plan out the window and letting Romo streetball. With Callahan, #5 scoring offense and some semblance of a run game. Get rid of him!!!

All of Garrett's route trees need to be cut down.

They do? Then why do such a large % of passes the past couple seasons (especially this last one) seem to be dink and dunk dump off stuff, including the dreaded 2 yr completion on 3rd and 8?

Yeah I'm sure none of it had to do with getting far more turnovers, or that the OL for the first time in years wasn't a sieve.

It was all Callahan

I said the offense was flawed. Still, it is better than whatever Garrett drags out there. A middle of the pack scoring offense.....which is what Linehan had last year too

Wasn't Linehan once considered a brilliant offensive mind? Or do I have him mixed up with someone.

Too lazy to google.

This is how jaded I've become...

I once was a fan that got excited about the hiring of Bruce Coslet and the transition to a WCO. Thought we'd be juggernauts.

Now.... nothing excites me because I know how it all ends.

Exactly.

And another pet peeve I've had, he finally got Witten the ball in the red zone. Don't care to look up the stats, but he had as many TDs in the first several games this year as he's had the last few years combined.

I don't think Callahan is some great guru, but the offense with him calling plays wasn't worse than it was with Garrett. It was a little different, but not worse.

I did think it was worse. Too much dink and dunk, and there were still too many games where Callahan didnt run the ball enough.

The wildcard is nobody really knows how much Romo's injury and input into the game plan and play calling effected all this.

That said, Tim Brown and Jerry Rice hate Callahan and think he's an idiot.

If you don't think Callahan is an idiot you didn't watch any games or your name is Hostile.

He may very well be an idiot. The offense underperformed for sure

I'm just saying....,he appears to be a better OC than Garrett

Just seems odd for Garrett to say "Oh hey that's not good enough" even though it was better than he could manage and appears to be better than what his replacement has managed to date

I'm all for a new OC. I just don't think a Garrett crony is the answer

That said, Tim Brown and Jerry Rice hate Callahan and think he's an idiot.

Former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown recently joined Sirius XM NFL Radio. Here are some highlights:

On Bill Callahan having to share offensive responsibilities with Jason Garrett and Tony Romo:

“I know him as being a great play-caller when he is calling his own system. I don’t what he is going to be able to call and what he’s not going to be able to call here so from that standpoint, it can be too many cooks in the kitchen then you’ve got a problem. I think this guy when they looking at his calling record, he’s one of the best. Those four years he was with the Ravens, he gave all the runs. The six years he was with the Raiders, two years with (Jon) Gruden and two years by himself, he called all the runs. When he became the head coach, he called the passes too. I think from that standpoint, we had one of the best offenses in the league that year. They could do the same kind of offense with Romo as we did with (Rich) Gannon. If I was them, I would let him do it himself because I think he’s quite capable of getting that done.”

Despite questioning Callahan’s intentions before the Super Bowl, throughout Tuesday’s interview, Brown showed support for his former coach’s ability to draw up offensive plays. Although Jason Garrett called the Cowboys’ plays last season, there’s a realistic chance that Callahan will be the team’s offensive play-caller next season.

“I’ve said this time and time again, there’s no doubt in my mind that Bill Callahan is probably the smartest offensive coach that I’ve ever been around,” Brown said. “I mean this guy can draw up plays in the dirt and make them work. I’ve seen that. Dealing with players is something totally different and I think that is what his issue was.”

It was more like knew what they were doing on the first drive. I have no idea what the hell happened in practically every second half, but it looks like he lost his damn mind.
