Cowboys need Crayton now
July, 30, 2010

SAN ANTONIO – Patrick Crayton suddenly has job security.

A high ankle sprain will sideline Dez Bryant for four to six weeks, a significant blow to the sensational rookie receiver’s development. It’s clear that the Cowboys need the dependable Crayton as an insurance policy.

“Call me Allstate,” Crayton cracked. “At least give me a name brand. I'm not the General. I'm all right.”

Crayton requested to be traded or released after the Cowboys drafted Bryant in the first round. Crayton’s concern was that the Cowboys would cut him after the preseason if they determined they didn’t need him.

He boycotted most of the voluntary offseason workouts, but he vowed not to complain about his situation after returning to Valley Ranch.

That won’t be an issue now that Bryant is in a walking boot.
