The first shoe has dropped. Cowboys guard La'el Collins has a torn ligament in his toe, will need surgery and likely go IR, per sources

At least we have a great backup there -- shouldn't be a drop off at all. Collins might be more talented but I think he was anointed a little too soon.

So does he get the "designated to return" spot since they kept Romo on the 53 ?

I think is Hill saying 8-10 weeks, which means he could return around or right after Thanksgiving perhaps

Collins got blown the fuck up on the play he got hurt. I bet his pride hurts more than his toe.

I think we might actually see an upgrade with Leary. He's pissed and motivated to play well. The better he plays the bigger his payday will be. Plus he gets a chance to prove that the Cowboys made a mistake in starting Collins over him.

Looney better be ready to play too. If Free goes down then Martin will be sliding out to RT and Looney will have to start at RG.

Looney has been active every game because he's the backup C/G

If Free goes down Chaz Green is moving in there if Tyron Smith is healthy enough to play LT.

Smith is still dealing with that stinger (and his back). He will likely be dealing with that all season like Zach Martin did last year. Even if Tyron goes back in it's likely that he's going to out again pretty soon. Everything I've been hearing is that Chaz would stay at LT and they would prefer to move Martin out to RT. That would put Looney at RG. Playing between Martin and Fredrick would also give him the best chance to succeed.

La'el Collins said he's been told by doctors there's a chance ligament damage can repair itself without need for surgery.

So basically he is going to wait two weeks and then realize he did need the surgery. Essentially ending his season. Always love those who go from doctor to doctor desperately looking to hear what they want to hear.

It could also be that if they were recommending surgery that it'd KO him the rest of the year. They might be saying if he avoids surgery he might be able to play later on if he can tolerate the pain.

The Cowboys will sign OG Emmett Cleary in the wake of the La'el Collins injury. Cleary was waived by the NY Giants on Sept. 3.
