Cowboys owner Jerry Jones insists that Jason Garrett is his coach not only for 2013, but for many years beyond that.

In an interview on the Cowboys’ website, Jones said Garrett is in it for the long haul.

“I saw things in our head coach that really give me a lot of promise for not only 2013 but for years to come,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I’m excited about Jason Garrett.”

Dallas fired several assistant coaches after the season and hired several new ones, and Jones also said that it was Garrett who made the decisions on the Cowboys’ coaching staff shakeup.

“He did the evaluations,” Jones said. “He basically said, ‘Jerry here’s who I want to get.’”

Jones said it was “pretty expensive” to buy out the contracts of the fired assistants and then hire new assistants, but he believes it was worth it. And he believes he won’t have to buy out a contract of a head coach in a year.

The thing about Garrett is he's never on top of anything.

We have to struggle with something for awhile before anythings done about it. Whether it be clock management, the OL, benching Ogletree/free. His instincts are seemingly nonexistent

Has any other team ever decided to stick with a head coach no matter what? I think the more criticism Jason gets is hurting his ego and now he's just throwing fuck you's all over the place.

Someone needs to humble him.

This.
The Cowboys suck while Garrett gets OJT.
Then Jason retires from the stress of it all.

I could see Garrett staying for years too, but if we dont make the playoffs in 2013 he's done here.

But the players play hard for him.

god I despise hearing that shit.

We are building something here. Back to back 8-8 seasons? Garrett practically had to rebuild the whole roster it was so bad. Once they have three All Pro Wrs we'll finally see his system work. RKG!!!!

I don't get why fans take this stuff as gospel. What is Jerry supposed to say right now heading into next season? "Yeah, he's most likely going to get fired." or " He better win or else!"

Exactly.

He makes playoffs, he'll get more time. He misses playoffs, there will be a new HC in 2014. Period.

Translation: teams other than Dallas will be winning Super Bowls for years to come.

I will be glad when this next season is over. I expect it will be Garrett's last. I hope he takes Callahan with him when he goes. I really don't know who Jerry would bring in, but the process has gotten old.
