IRVING — The outside perception is that Jerry Jones made the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff changes following an 8-8 finish to the 2012 season. Jones has also been perceived to have given offensive playing-calling duties to Bill Callahan and more game-planning responsibility to Tony Romo.
The perception is that the Cowboys owner and general manager is taking authority away from head coach Jason Garrett.
Many coaches would be concerned if it appeared like they were losing overall control of their team. But Garrett said he’s not worried about perception.
Why not?
“Because I know what I do each and every day in regards to this football team,” Garrett said Tuesday. “And I know how [Jones] and I work together and how this organization works, and how well we work together and how well we communicate and how we come to decisions. I know what I do when I get up in the morning and come over here and coach this football team.”
Garrett added: “Doing my job to the best of my ability matters the most. My job is to try to create an environment for everybody in this building, on this football team, players and coaches, to be put in the best position possible to be their best.
“That’s what I focus on each and every day.”
