Getting to know: Titus Ryan
Player Report from DC.com

Position: Wide Receiver
Height/Weight: 6-0, 200
Age: 26
College: Concordia College (AL)
NFL Exp: 1st season
How Acquired: FA-'10

Fitting In: Ryan faces a daunting challenge fighting for a spot in a receiving corps oozing with talent. Starters Roy Williams and Miles Austin return, as does a reliable third receiver in Patrick Crayton, veteran Cowboy Sam Hurd and Kevin Ogletree, whose route-running head coach Wade Phillips compared to Terry Glenn's. Add dazzling first-round draft pick Dez Bryant, and there's little room for additional players. Where Ryan could find a role is in the return game. Head coach Wade Phillips said Ryan will get plenty of looks in the Cincinnati game as both punt and kickoff returner.

So Far: None of the receivers in camp seem miles behind the rest. Unfortunately for the receivers who weren't on the team last year, being even with the pack isn't enough. Jesse Holley, Manuel Johnson and Terrell Hudgins have all provided noticeable catches early in training camp. Ryan, who has also contributed on special teams, needs to make tremendous plays throughout the remainder of training camp and preseason to land a roster spot.

Best Asset: Ryan's speed is undeniable. He set the state record on the Tuscaloosa County High School track team in 2002 with a 100-meter dash time of 10.44 seconds en route to becoming the Alabama state champion in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. He said the NFL clocked him in the 40-yard dash at 4.36 seconds, but he said his high school coach once clocked him at a 4.18. Cornerback Mike Jenkins said at the beginning of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) all the defensive backs were talking about Ryan, who "made a lot of amazing catches and ran by a lot of guys."

You Should Know: This isn't Ryan's first time in a professional football league. He played for the Calgary Stampeders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League in 2009. Prior to that, he signed as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2007 and spent time on New Orleans' and Carolina's practice squads.

A Mouthful: "I figure you don't get many chances. Once the opportunity presents itself, you've got to take full advantage of it."
