Finally, the Cowboys have some salary cap space. Well, it was short-lived.

The Cowboys have restructured the contract of backup quarterback Kyle Orton to free up enough space to officially sign free agent linebacker Justin Durant to a two-year deal, according to a source.

Durant visited Valley Ranch on Monday along with two free agent safeties: Michael Huff and Will Allen.

The Cowboys also agreed to terms with Allen on Wednesday, according to a source.

And the Baltimore Ravens announced this morning that they have agreed to a three-year deal with Huff.

The Cowboys are now looking to cut a player from their roster to free up more cap space so that they can officially sign Allen.

Orton was a part of the Cowboys’ big free agent haul last off-season. Orton will be entering the second year of a three-year, $10.5 million contract that included a $5 million signing bonus.

Durant, 27, played the last two season for the Detroit Lions after spending his first four seasons in Jacksonville. Durant (6-1, 240) started 14 games for the Lions last season and finished with 103 total tackles, including a team-best 82 solo. Durant has started 68 of the 79 games he’s played in during his six-year NFL career. Durant played at outside linebacker for the Lions in their 4-3 defense.

Durant, a 2007 second-round draft choice, came to Detroit on a two-year, $5.5 million contract.

Kyle Wilber and Alex Albright are expected to compete for the Cowboys’ starting strong-side linebacker position along with Durant.

I've never seen a team that has to restructure so many contracts in my life.

We're basically all in, hoping to make a run in the next two years.

If it works, it'll all be worth it. If not... well, more of the same, really.
