Without a semblance of competition for the first time, Dallas Cowboys kicker David Buehler responded with a perfect performance during Thursday's practice.

With the entire team watching, Buehler made all six field-goal tries at distances ranging from 22 to 30 yards. The Cowboys have had Buehler concentrate on short-range kicks to get into a rhythm much like a golfer who starts practice by hitting wedges and 9-irons. Distance is not a concern for the Cowboys with Buehler.

Buehler took all six kicks during the special-teams portion of practice because he is the only kicker in camp. The Cowboys released undrafted rookie Delbert Alvarado, who had been nominal competition.

Coach Wade Phillips said Beuhler has smoothed out his approach, leading to fewer hooks and better accuracy. That has helped Buehler on his kickoffs, Phillips said.

He put six consecutive kickoffs into the back of the end zone, which is not surprising. Buehler had a league-high 29 touchbacks last season as a rookie.
The difference is an increased ability to place kickoffs on both sides of the field. Buehler last season pushed most of his kickoff to the right side.

``He's working at what he does, and he's coming along well,'' Phillips said.

I want to see him kick with the defense rushing and coming at him full speed, then see how he does.
