It's a little bit hard to believe DeMarcus Ware wasn't named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his huge game on Sunday, with three sacks and a fumble-recovery touchdown against Philadelphia.

Especially so considering the strange streak of player of the week honors that have gone to Cowboys players or their opponents this season.

But even more surprising than Ware not getting the award is the idea of who actually won it - Green Bay outside linebacker Erik Walden, the Cowboys' 2008 sixth-round pick from Middle Tennessee State.

Walden didn't make the roster out of training camp that year, and was picked up by Kansas City upon final cuts. He stayed there until November, when he was released and then signed by Miami, who kept him until early this season. Green Bay signed him as a street free agent on Halloween, and he started only the second game of his career Sunday.

In a game the Packers had to win, he piled up 16 tackles and two sacks against the Bears.

With Bradie James, Zach Thomas, Kevin Burnett, Bobby Carpenter and special-teamer Justin Rogers on the roster, the Cowboys didn't feel they had room for Walden to develop on the outside behind DeMarcus Ware, Greg Ellis and Anthony Spencer.
