Position battle: Kosier at center?
July, 26, 2010 Jul 267:21PM CTEmail Print Comments By Tim MacMahonSAN ANTONIO – The contingency plan at center is for left guard Kyle Kosier to slide over if Andre Gurode goes down.

Kosier has yet to get a rep at center during training camp. That will change tomorrow.

Travis Bright, who spent last season on the practice squad as a guard, is trying to make the transition to center. He has taken every rep with the second team so far in camp, but he’s struggling at his new position.

Kosier has never played center, either. While Bright focused on that position during the offseason, Kosier got limited reps there. However, Wade Phillips said he didn’t think it’d be a problem for Kosier to prepare to play center even though he’ll remain the starter at left guard.

If Kosier struggles at center, the Cowboys could have to sign a center to back up Gurode. The problem, other than finding a good fit, is that they plan to have only two reserve linemen active on game days. They want one of them to be guard Montrae Holland.

Cowboys respond to OTL food report
July, 26, 2010 Jul 267:17PM CTEmail Print Comments By Tim MacMahonSAN ANTONIO – Cowboys Stadium had the highest percentage of health code violations for its food and beverage vendors among pro sports arenas and stadiums in Texas, according to an “Outside The Lines” investigation.

In the stadium’s opening season, 72 percent of the vendors had critical violations. The only NFL stadiums with higher percentages of critical violations were Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium and Miami’s Sun Life Stadium.

“Our goal is to always provide a great experience for our fans at Cowboys Stadium, and as part of that we work closely with our concessionaire, Legends Hospitality, to ensure our food and beverage options are the best in sports,” Cowboys Stadium spokesman Brett Daniels said. “We are aware of the health code items in question and know they were addressed in a timely manner once discovered.”

Play of the Day: Dez does it again
July, 26, 2010 Jul 266:51PM CTEmail Print Comments By Tim MacMahonSAN ANTONIO – It’s getting monotonous to give Dez Bryant props in this space, but the dude keeps making spectacular plays.

And it’s often against Pro Bowl competition.

Bryant got a step on Mike Jenkins while running a stutter-go during 1-on-1 drills, which is an impressive feat in itself. Then Bryant came back to snare an underthrown pass from Matt Nichols, making a leaping catch and falling into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown.

It was the second time Bryant got a step on Jenkins deep during the session. Jenkins managed to recover to deflect a slightly underthrown pass the previous time.

Bryant is likely to see a lot of man coverage this season, with opponents having to scheme to stop Miles Austin and Jason Witten. He’s proven that he can create major problems in those situations.

“They can’t cover Miles one-on-one,” Bryant said Sunday. “I’m pretty sure they’re going to double him, and that’s going to leave the rest of us open to make a play.

“When I see it, I’m going to get excited.”

Bryant will go down as the greatest receiver in Cowboys history when it's all said and done.
