Machota: Why DeMarcus Lawrence's 4-game suspension is bigger loss for Cowboys than McClain's 10-game ban
By Jon Machota

SportsDay's Jon Machota answered questions in a chat Friday. Here are some highlights.

Question: Bigger loss -- DeMarcus Lawrence or Rolando McClain?

Jon Machota: Lawrence. Their biggest weakness is getting to the quarterback and he did that better than anyone on the team last season. Rolando's very talented, but give me the pass rusher.

Question: Shouldn't the Cowboys consider LB Stephen Tulloch?

Jon Machota: I think they should. However, it appears at this point that they think highly enough of the guys on the roster to avoid signing the veteran. Perhaps they add a vet LB when teams begin to trim their rosters.

Question: Any chance Brice Butler beats out Williams for No. 2 receiver spot?

Jon Machota: There's always a chance, but I don't necessarily expect it to happen. Williams is the favorite, and I thought he looked good during OTAs and minicamp. Butler worked a lot with the first team offense because Dez Bryant was limited. But if everyone is healthy, I think it's Dez and Williams on the outside like it's been.

Question: What would you consider a good rookie season by Elliott? 1,200 yards, more?

Jon Machota: If he stays healthy, 1,200-1,500 yards are certainly possible. Normally, a 1,000-yard season for a rookie RB is outstanding, but I think the bar is much higher for Zeke because of the offensive line and offensive weapons he's playing alongside.

Zeke was the fourth pick in the draft. Don't give me 1k yards is outstanding. Thats like 63 yards per game.

EE needs to get 1400+ imo. No, fuck that. The guy he is replacing got 1400. EE needs to get 1500+ and 10 TD's.
