Ron Leary feels the same: Give me a chance to start here or somewhere else
By Jon Machota
OXNARD, Calif. -- Ron Leary's feelings haven't changed. If he's not going to start, he would like to be traded. The four-year veteran has been working with the second-team offense at left guard through the first week of Cowboys training camp.
"I know I'm a starter in this league, so I just approach it like I'm a starter," Leary said. "I make sure I'm ready for whatever comes my way. As far as all the trade talks and everything, that's just going to happen."
Seeking a trade for an opportunity to start, Leary did not attend the voluntary portion of the team's offseason program.
"What happened in the offseason, that needed to happen," Leary said. "But I've been working this whole time, so I knew I would come in and be ready for camp."
Leary started 16 games in 2013 and 15 in 2014. He started three of the first five games last season before a groin injury opened the door for rookie La'el Collins to take the starting spot. Collins is working with the Cowboys' first-team offense at left guard.
"It's tough, but I'm a God-fearing man, so everything that's going to happen is going to happen on his time and it's going to happen at the right time," Leary said. "I'm not too much stressing about it. I'm just going to stay ready to play football."
Leary said he hasn't talked with Cowboys management since training camp started, but his feelings about being a starter haven't changed.
"Right now, I'm just going to play football," Leary said, "but I still feel the same on that."
