Best Cowboys training camp quotes: WR Brice Butler says going through 4 QBs is like having 4 girlfriends -- 'you just adjust'
By Jon Machota

OXNARD, Calif. -- Wednesday marks the Cowboys' first training camp off day. There have been four days of practices with the last two being in full pads.

To help get you up to speed on anything you might have missed, here is Part 1 of the top 20 quotes from the first week of camp.

.) Dez Bryant: "I feel good about our squad. ... I'm just doing whatever the coaches tell me to do. I'm excited. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to get back in beast mode."

.) Wide receivers coach Derek Dooley on Bryant's start to camp: "He's rusty. He's got a lot of work to do and he knows it. He's still got his skills. The good news is his foot is great, moving around well. We just have to take it one day at a time and he'll get back into his rhythm."

.) Cornerback Morris Claiborne on trash talking with Bryant during drills: "He was chirping at me because I guess I got him pretty good. You know how Dez do. He was saying, 'Wait until we start running routes.' I said, 'I'm ready for that. I'm here.'"

.) Bryant on Tony Romo and Jason Witten: "My appreciation level for them is extremely high. I love those two guys like my own family members. I learned a lot from both of those guys. I want to see them in that big dance. I want them to win one."

.) Tony Romo: "It's the best offseason I've had in a long time, just to be able to do all of the stuff you're not always able to do. ... It's been holding up. Everything has been going good. We just got to keep getting stronger and keep getting better."
.) Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson on Romo: "His spring was really phenomenal. He threw with as much accuracy and velocity as I've ever seen."

.) Wilson on Romo's back stiffness: "Still got a little battle with the back, but as long as he gets good and loose and goes through his routine, that makes it pretty well. ... It's a little bit of stiffness and what not, but he's doing his routine when he's supposed to and he gets treatment on it and there's no issues."

.) Romo on singing in front of the team during his rookie season: "It was 'Ring of Fire' and it was in San Antonio. Didn't go over very well. Not everyone knew 'Ring of Fire,' and the one guy who did, Dan Campbell, didn't like it."

.) Romo on the overweight memes circulating the internet: "I think I have gone through enough criticism in my career that that is the least of my worries. Granted if I was that big, we would have to have some talks. But I think I will be all right."

.) Pro Bowl linebacker Sean Lee: "Knee is 100 percent. ... I'm working to [stay healthy for a full season], working to play at a higher level. I expect more out of myself this year."

.) Jerry Jones during opening news conference: "I am excited. Had visions of sugar plums seeing that No. 9 roll out there for our practices, No. 88, No. 32 and of course No. 25 back in uniform and working on the field again. These guys represent weapons that we didn't have last year."

.) Jones on any potential interest in free agent quarterback Nick Foles (before Kellen Moore's injury): "Foles isn't an option. ... We can't get him any snaps. We got four that are going to get snaps. ... We know Foles pretty well."

.) Jerry Jones revealing that second-year linebacker Damien Wilson has eye injury: "We have one player that won't be here for two or three weeks. He got hit in the eye with a paintball."

.) Ezekiel Elliott: "Outside expectations really don't mean much to me. I don't think anyone can expect more of myself than me and my teammates and that's all that matters. I expect to go out there and help this team win football games."

.) Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan on Elliott: "He learns quick. He makes mistakes like young players do, but I haven't seen him make the same one twice."

.) Jason Garrett sharing his thoughts on Tony Romo and Jason Witten: "They're two of the best competitors I've ever been around in my life. They're two of the best character people I've ever been around in my life. Football character, personal character. You want them to marry your sister. You want them to marry your daughter. They're just fantastic people that love to play this game."

.) Witten: "The window is now. That's clear. You've been asking me that for five years. Look, I feel great and ready to go. The window is now and it's that way for the entire organization. I think that's great to have that approach."

.) Second-year defensive end Ryan Russell: "We have enough pass rush out here to be the best defensive unit in the league and the best defensive line in the league, and I truly believe that. We're very young and we're all very ambitious. No one is looking at us. No one is really worried about us, so we have nothing to lose. ... We have so much talent that people just haven't seen yet. That's not their fault, they haven't seen us. We're definitely going to shock the world."

.) DeMarcus Lawrence on his four-game suspension to start the season: "I messed up. I learn from my mistakes and I just have to move on and get everything right. ... I've got a chip on my shoulder, you know. You've got to play like that when you know you let the team down for the first four."

.) Dan Bailey on sticking with the same game cleats he's been wearing since his rookie year: "I wouldn't say it's a superstition. It's literally like not wearing a cleat. I've been wearing it for so long now, it's just like a sock. ... I got some duct tape on there, a little super glue. They're still intact enough to be functional but they're broken in pretty good."
