The chances of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant playing Sunday against the New York Giants grew a little slimmer Wednesday because he is not practicing, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.

Bryant was not on the field during the portion of practice open to the media. He had surgery, which included a bone graft, on Sept. 14, the day after he broke his right foot in the season-opening win against the Giants. Two weeks ago he had a stem-cell injection in the foot to help the healing process.

The Cowboys have maintained a four- to six-week recovery period for Bryant.

Coach Jason Garrett said Bryant will have to practice in order to play after such a long layoff.

"I think it's as simple as, 'Is he ready to play physically?' " Garrett said. "There's a lot of different ways to evaluate that. He obviously is the one who will have the biggest say in it based on how he's feeling with the work that we're giving him. But we'll observe him as well. We'll observe him as coaches. We'll observe him as medical people. And just see where he is and we'll make our best judgment for him and for our team."

It's not looking like he will play. Even with how important this weeks matchup is I don't want him on the field if he's not 100%

But it will basically come down to the X-ray on Saturday

It will show that the foot is either healed or not. That will be the deciding factor. Dez is going to say he can play no matter the outcome but if the X-ray shows he's not ready then the coaches keep him out of the game

It's that simple

Garrett: Dez Bryant running and cutting at full speed
Posted by Zac Jackson on October 22, 2015, 12:29 PM EDT

The waiting game continues for Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, but there are signs that the Cowboys are keeping the door open for Bryant to return to action as soon as Sunday at the Giants.

Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett told reporters that Bryant will work on the side at the start of practice Thursday, but Garrett said Bryant is running and cutting at full speed.

Tuesday, Garrett said Bryant could play Sunday “if he has a couple of really good days of practice.” The Cowboys listed Bryant as a non-participant in practice Wednesday; he worked only on the side.

Bryant broke his foot in Week 1 against the Giants. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones has suggested that Bryant may be ahead of what was a projected November return, possibly as soon as this week.

He didn't practice at all today. Didn't catch one single pass from Cassel. Only from the trainers

So it looks like he won't be playing on Sunday

I hope he does but it's very doubtful

Carrot top said he wanted him to have a couple days of practice before playing and tomorrow they are going to ground zero and not practicing

So that would leave only the limited time on saturday

Id rather sit him one more week than rush him back.

Call me crazy, but I think we can beat the Giants without him.

Dez Bryant listed as doubtful after not practicing this week

Dez Bryant didn't participate in practice Friday and is officially listed as doubtful for the Cowboys' upcoming game against the New York Giants on Sunday, Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Bryant has been sidelined since Dallas' season opener after fracturing the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot during that Week 1 victory over the Giants

He underwent surgery and this month received a therapeutic injection stem cells and platelets into the damaged area to promote healing. Last week, Bryant returned to the field for rehabilitation work on the side as the team practiced.

Coming off the bye last Sunday, the Cowboys sold the idea that Bryant could possibly play against the Giants. Heads coach Jason Garrett and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan refused to rule him out. But it always seemed far-fetched he would play.

David Moore said this morning that Jerry (or Garrett, whoever) was asked if Dez was doing anything full speed and he replied something like, well, he's doing some running and cutting. It got reported that he was running and cutting full speed but Moore said he didn't take it that way and didn't think Jerry meant it that way. He seemed to think this whole thing was more gamesmanship than anything.
